5:47 pm - Stranger Song mp3?
|

skjaere
|
I know Jason sometimes performs a cover of Leonard Cohen's "The Stranger Song" at live shows, but he's never released a recording of it. Does anyone by any chance have a bootlegged mp3 of him singing it? I would love you forever. Cohen and Webley are my two favourite musical artists, and having one of them cover the other is the next best thing to the two of them releasing some sort of collaboration.

Has anyone got their copy of the new Evelyn Evelyn album yet? I haven't heard anyone say they have, but I haven't heard anything about the shipping being delayed either.

Viaje (1998), Against the Night (1999), Counterpoint (2002), Only Just Beginning (2004), The Cost of Living

3:14 pm - Jason Webley plays the Sat night mainstage at the 2nd annual Accordion Noir Festival Sept 10-12th
|
|
reluctance
|
I understand that you folks in the Pacific Northwest we're targeting mostly have plenty of opportunities to see Mr. Webley on the other side of the border, but it's been a while since his last visit up here to Vancouver, BC (Canada) at the Night of a Thousand Buttons (that you can hear snippets from courtesy of our weekly alt-accordion podcast) and, let's be frank, he's pretty much what we always envisioned as an ideal festival headliner, epitomizing the new low-fi accordion style with teeth! Once we sold out the Railway Club at last year's festival, we figured it just might be worth our while to invoke him to fill a larger room with his squeezes, stomps and growls.
So now he's coming, and we want to let everyone know to gird their loins and prepare themselves!
* The Thursday night, Sept 10th, we're hosting a convocation of our monthly squeezebox circle to act as open stage for all the accordion folk we hope the festival will lure out of the woodwork, keen to share their stuff among the like-minded but not scheduled to perform as part of any of the stage line-ups. This goes down at Spartacus Books, 684 E. Hastings, from 8-10 pm, by donation.
* The Friday night we kick off the planned music festivities at Cafe Montmartre (4362 Main Street) with an intimate suite of smaller-to-larger squeezebox performances from Barbara Adler, Joanna Chapman-Smith, Dawn Zoe, Andy Fielding, Tina Tew, Mezamazing and the Creaking Planks! Also, miraculously, by donation!
* Saturday features more squeezy shenanigans than both previous days combined, starting with an accordion parade (weather permitting) at 4 pm from Grandview Park to the day's venue, the WISE Hall (1882 Adanac). There we have three workshops (accordion repair, composing and history) through to 6:30, at which point we dim the house lights and start an hour and a half of accordion film festival!
Then around 8 pm we get underway with our three headliners, Atlantic punk Story, klezmer kingpin Geoff Berner and the aforementioned Mr. Webley, with whom those here may enjoy some familiarity. There will be special guests, tweeners and other surprises, and you can enjoy the whole day for $20!
If you don't live near the Vancouver area... please consider tipping off a friend who does! This should be a show to remember. and since we're a radio show, you can hear us compel you with your own two ears!

(Cross-posted from my blog…)
Last night, my girlfriend Prairie and I went out to see Jason Webley’s Elevanniversary show, our first Webley show in a few years. We’d been skipping them lately, but between this being his eleventh anniversary show, having it at Seattle’s Town Hall (a venue we really like), and the guest list he’d lined up, we decided this was one we wanted to see. In the end, while it wasn’t our all-time favorite Webley show, it was still good, (mostly) a lot of fun, and we’re glad we went. I took a few pictures during the course of the night, and they’ll be up eventually, but as we sat towards the back and I was more interested in just enjoying the show, it won’t be among my most comprehensive sets of Webley documentation. I’m sure you’ll all survive. :)
( The rest of my babbling is in here, LJ-cut for consideration. No pictures from me yet, but I'll get them up soon as I can, and I'm sure many others have already beat me to itCollapse )
Happy Elevanniversary, Jason. We’re glad we could be there.

2:02 pm - New JW Vinyl

Did anyone else not get notified that Jason's new vinyl EP, "Days With You" with Sxip Shirey is now available for preorder on his website? Well, it is. He's also selling a vinyl edition of "Only Just Beginning", so if you're a JW collector, you might want to get your butt on over there, before they are all sold out.

In my next life, I want to come back as Jason's accordion.
The Richmond, VA show tonight was awesome, and not just Jason (though he was on form as usual). The opening musicians were very good as well, especially the Hot Damns. If you like your rock with a little bit of a country edge, you should check them out. The male vocalist is pretty funny, and the female vocalist can really belt it out.

5:02 pm - Halloween Shows: Any Report-Backs?

Hello--alas, I didn't make it to either of the Halloween shows, in Portland or Seattle (I got invited to a Qawwali show in Edmonds on the night of the small Seattle concert). Did anyone at this comm attend either or both of these? Are there any reviews or reports of either show? Photos, videos, mp3s? Please post as soon as you get the chance--I'm still curious as to what-all happened; and this is the first time since 2000 that I wasn't at one of these events!
Thanks in advance, and hope y'all enjoyed Election Night too...

The show this evening was awesome (as usual). Lots of energy. It was clear that about 95% of the audience was there to see Rev Peyton, but Jason got them on their feet with a little encouragement. Sometimes I think he loves working audiences who don't know him. Jason was on good form, and the Big Damn Band and the Rumke Mountain Boys were both excellent as well. I got my copies of Two Bottles of Wine and Elephant Elephant autographed. Couldn't believe Jason remembered me from the show I went to last year. What a guy.

I have 2 tickets to see Jason Webley and the Avett Brothers at Neumos on Capitol Hill in Seattle tonight (Friday 4/11/08). Doors at 8pm. I just don't want them to go to waste and I can't find anyone that wants them! Any takers?
